"We can play, Daryl, yeah? Pretend. Come on, pretend he’s alive."
In a patch of wasteland three kids sit sniffing glue, bunking school. They have all the time in the world. But when Kevin overdoses, their games get out of hand, and decisions must be made. Gary appears and he's not happy: a price must be paid. The world darkens as he demands something in return for his little brother’s life…
Porcelain is a dark fairytale, a stark reminder that our nightmares are never far away.
Praise for Ali Taylor's Cotton Wool (Theatre503): "Beneath their terse, unlovely teen argot is a siren song of grief and longing. Bewitching." The Times
"Ali Taylor’s dark comic drama" Time Out - Critics' Choice Praise for Ali Taylor's Overspill (Soho Theatre):
Winner of Metamorphosis 08
"Ali Taylor's slice of urban life is small but thrilling. It is driven by a pulsating rhythm, a sense of place, a menacing undercurrent of casual violence waiting to erupt, and a layered story that suggests the lads' friendship was about to be blown apart by other factors as adolescence gives way to adulthood." Guardian
Porcelain was originally written as part the Royal Court Young Writers’ Programme, and showcased in a performance in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs, directed by Rufus Norris. In June 2007, Box of Tricks presented a rehearsed reading of Porcelain at the White Bear as part of NEW TRICKS, and in March 2008, a staged reading at the Arcola Theatre.
