“I think I can see people jumping…From the towers, the buildings. Look closely, the black dots…Falling down like leaves, without a care in the world…They look like they know they’re alive. They’ve made their choice.”
The cities burn. The people flee. Jim and Robert ‘ghost’ their way through the country manors, waiting for Gas to call. Just two more houses before the coast. Just two more stops and they’re free. But when Annie discovers them in their latest retreat, things spiral out of control, and decisions must be made.
A play for today, Rural casts a long shadow across its bloody landscape into our own. Both personal and political, the play explores the importance of choice and freedom in a world void of either.
